To identify whether sprinklers that are or were installed in your structure are Subject Sprinklers, please follow these steps.

WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE COVER PLATE OF ANY INSTALLED SPRINKLERS TO CHECK WHETHER THEY ARE VK457 FIRE SPRINKLERS. DOING SO COULD CAUSE AN ACTIVATION OF THE FIRE SPRINKLERS.

1. If you have any spare sprinklers left behind by the installer, see if they are stamped “VK457”. You could also contact your installer, or the homebuilder (if known) for clarification.

To look for the stamp, check the bottom of the sprinkler (known as the deflector shield) for a “VK457” stamp, as shown below:

2. Once you have confirmed that your sprinkler is a VK457, you can determine the year of manufacture by looking at the body of the sprinkler. If the year is 13 or 14, your VK457 fire sprinklers are Subject Sprinklers. If the year is 15, then your VK457 fire sprinklers may be Subject Sprinklers.

The last two digits of the year will be stamped upside-down as shown in the image below:

3.If you determine you have VK457 sprinklers, and your home was built after January 1, 2013, or prior to June 30, 2015, then it is likely your VK457 fire sprinklers are Subject Sprinklers.
